Smart Database Cloning

Performance Success Stories

Following are the some of the bench mark performance figures for the purpose of evaluating DbClone.*

Cloning Oracle database on same server

Test1: Cloning and  Refreshing Oracle database on same UNIX server

Actual SUN Server Environment

Cloning a complete oracle 8.1.6 database on SUN Ultra Enterprise 4.0 with two 300 Mhz processors, 512 MB RAM, 18 GB 7200 RPM  SCSI interface and running four Oracle instances with SGA sizes 100 MB, 75 MB, 80 MB and 75 MB with an average of 8 active user processes and average Database size of 450 MB.

Source Database Specifications:

Oracle Version 8.1.6, Database size 250 MB in 7 datafiles.

Target Database performance:

Time taken in minutes between the start of the cloning process until the target Database is tested for open and running status.

1. Cloning Online on the same server (without source shutdown):     4.5 min.

2. Cloning Offline on the same server (with source shutdown):          4.0 min.

3. Refresh Online on the same server (without source shutdown):   4.0 min.

4. Refresh  Offline on the same server (with source shutdown):       3.5 min.

Migrating Oracle between SUN Solaris 2.6 and HP UX 11 servers

Test2: Migration of Oracle database between SUN and UNIX platforms.

Actual Source SUN Server Environment

Migrating a complete oracle 8.1.6 database on SUN Ultra Enterprise 4.0 with two 300 Mhz processors, 512 MB RAM, 18 GB 7200 RPM  SCSI interface and running four Oracle instances with SGA sizes 100 MB, 75 MB, 80 MB and 75 MB with an average of 8 active user processes and average Database size of 450 MB.

Actual Target HP Server Environment

Migrating from above SUN server a complete oracle 8.1.6 database to HP 9000  /K 570 server with one 300 Mhz processors, 512 MB RAM, 8 GB 7200 RPM  SCSI interface and running two  Oracle instances with SGA sizes 100 MB and  80 MB with an average of 5 active user processes and average Database size of 300 MB.

Source Database Specifications:

Oracle Version 8.1.6, Database size 250 MB in 7 datafiles.

Target Database performance:

Time taken in minuets between the start of the migration  process until the target Database is tested for open and running status.

1. Migrating between SUN and HP  servers with all objects and data:        48 min.

2. Migrating between SUN and HP servers with data structure without any data: 30 min.

*Note  The above timing does not include a one time install and setup operations.
